Stop the Burnhamthorpe Road extension through Glenorchy Conservation Area

The Region of Halton intends to extend Burnhamthorpe Road through the southern-most part of the new Glenorchy Conservation Area in northwest Oakville. The 4-lane road will transverse the most sensitive parts of this nature preserve including creeks, streams and intact forest, destroying large areas. The undersigned call on the Region of Halton to rethink this plan, allow the road to continue to dead end as it does now, or choose another route that does not intrude into Glenorchy and the adjacent Natural Heritage System.
We, the undersigned, are opposed to the plans to extend Burnhamthorpe Road through Glenorchy Conservation Area and the surrounding ANSI (Area of Natural and Scientific Interest). We believe putting in another road sends the wrong message- that people and cars come before nature, that it's okay to carve up sensitive green space and discourages the use of public transportation. Allowing the building of this road will set a bad precedent and will permanently impact the largest remnants of interior forest and contribute to further habitat fragmentation in the surrounding ANSI.
Stop the Burnhamthorpe Road expansion through Glenorchy and the surrounding Natural Heritage System!
