We the undersigned call on Virgin Media to cancel their closure plan and to retain 435 jobs in Liverpool.
“VM intend closing their Technical Help Desk currently situated on the Albert Dock in Liverpool, which will make 435 skilled workers redundant. Many of these staff have stayed loyal to Virgin Media despite not having had a pay rise for over 6 years.
No realistic alternative work is being offered to the staff. They have been told they can move to Swansea, or apply for completely different jobs in Manchester, whilst admitting that neither of these are realistic.
This closure is based on their desire to “rationalise property”. At the same time they proposed to continue with their Offshore Help Desks in South Africa and India. It takes no account of the skills and experience that will be lost or the hardship it will cause.
