We respectfully request that the Civil Rights Division of the United States Department of Justice review events surrounding the prosecution of 15-year-old Shaquonda Cotton in Paris Texas. Shaquonda Cotton and the residents of Paris Texas feel they have good grounds to believe the US Department of Justice will find their civil rights to have been continuously violated by the authorities in the schools and local law enforcement.
The prosecutions of Shaquonda Cotton and the six teens in Jena Louisiana represents a clear pattern and gross miscarriage of justice, punishing Black students for opposing racism and segregation of their schools while ignoring the threatening and provocative acts of those engaging racism in segregation.
We respectfully request that the Civil Rights Division of the United States Department of Justice launch a full investigation into events in Paris Texas, Jena, Louisiana; as well as, any abuse in law enforcement. Civil rights violations have been on the rise with respect to black people in America, and we feel the Department of Justice should be acting swiftly and severely to deter any injustice in America. An Injustice Anywhere, Is A Threat To Justice Everywhere.
