We, the undersigned, as students of the College of William and Mary, recognize the threat posed by climate change to the wellbeing of our society, the natural environment, and future generations. We understand that immediate action is required to prevent the most drastic effects of global warming including sea level rise, increased weather volatility, and exacerbated economic hardship for the worlds poorest peoples.
As a leader in higher education, we believe that our university has the clear responsibility to lessen its contribution to this crisis by reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. We pledge to do our part by conserving energy and reducing consumption in our own lives. And we call upon Landscape Energy and Environment Committee and President Gene Nichol to do theirs by signing the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment and beginning the process of moving William and Mary towards carbon neutrality.
