We at L.A. Ainger request to remove Eighth Grade Computer Class and replace it with a Study Hall. However, we realize the importance of this class to some and therefore submit this suggestion: that Study Hall only be available to people who achieve a three or higher on the Reading and Math FCATs. This will be beneficial to both students and teachers because the students will have a chance to study for an upcoming test, finish homework, and or Sharpen their Saw, which will benefit them by giving them a chance to relax and prepare for the classes that follow. By giving students the chance to do this, they have the potential to receive better grades, which will help them in the future, whether that translates to gaining admission into a better college or being more successful in future careers. Not only will replacing Computer Class with Study Hall be beneficial to students, but to teachers as well. By granting students the ability to have extra time to study for a test or finish homework, they will be more prepared and able to achieve a higher grade. They will also be less stressed which will in turn result in a higher efficiency rate at which they accomplish their work. Because Computer Class consists mainly of FCAT practice and Larson's Intermediate Math, by only allowing the switch to students who can achieve a Three or higher on those FCATs, students who need the extra practice on those areas will not be denied the opportunity to prepare for the FCATs. Please consider this proposal and contemplate its advantages as well as any problems that may arise as a result of it.
