For people unfamiliar with the property, the quarry site is approximately a mile north of Duvall. You can see a waterfall, which runs through the middle of the site, from the highway in winter. This site is bordered Cherry Creek. Fish biologists have called Cherry Creek "one of the most significant salmon-bearing stream in Western Washington. Salmon-bearing Hanstead Creek runs into Cherry Creek at the base of the proposed site. A quarry would be disastrous to the salmon in this creek.
The site is an oasis for wildlife and, is adjacent to the 400-acre Cherry Valley Wildlife area, providing the public with opportunities for hunting, fishing, dog training and other recreational pursuits.
Further, this quarry would be in the middle of a rural residential neighborhood, a dairy, horse farms, a bird sanctuary and is near a school. The site would have a dangerous access to SR 203, and add up to 500 trucks a day to the traffic. Noise, dust, pollution, possible damage to water wells, and the closeness to the epicenter of the Duvall earthquake, are some other concerns.
A quarry does not belong here.
