We the undersigned are shocked and dismayed to read the announcement that TD Bank has decided to close the accounts of Iranian-Canadians.
What precisely is the crime of these individuals whose accounts TD Bank want to close? Have they broken any banking regulations; are they guilty of committing any crimes or have they been found guilty of something or is this the new modus operandi of TD bank to pronounce them guilty by accusation and association.
While most of us are not of Iranian origin, your decision wreaks of racism. TD has provided no reason for closing the accounts of Canadians of Iranian origin.
We know many friends and community members that have accounts at TD. Should your bank decide not to reverse such a racist policy, we would be forced to launch a campaign to close our accounts at TD, transfer our mortgages to other institutions and urge all our contacts not to open any accounts at TD.
Remember, there are many banks in Canada and customers have a choice to go elsewhere.
