The Martinsville/Henry County Skate Park

We are in drastic need of a skate park.
We, as skate boarders understand that skateboarding on public or private property is illegal, and at times does cause cosmetic damage. Thus, there is no place to skate safely and legally in Martinsville and Henry County
The closest park is at LEAST a 40 minute drive outside the county. That's tax dollars going elsewhere. WE NEED A SKATE PARK!
As some maybe aware of, Vancouver has already made skateboarding legal in the city, becoming Canadas most "skate friendly" city in the country. Vancouvers way of dealing with skate boarders isn't to try and stop them, but to try and give them space where they can skate safely. In the city alone, there is over 20 skate parks, with a new, state of the art "street style" skate park being built.
As far as a location, good areas would be in J. Frank Wilson Memorial Park in the city, Jack E. Dalton Park in the county, or construct a skate park in a vacant lot or building, with the theme of street style, so it would blend in seamlessly with the surrounding areas.
The city and the county need to come together to help build a skate park for the benefit of the whole community and to enhance the quality of life for people in the area.
To us it is simple:
Skate boarders are not welcome in private or public sectors.
There are charities that can help build a new park.
Skate boarders would help build it.
The sport is only going to get bigger, and problems with skating on private property is going to get worse.
So, we give our support and we ask for yours.

I think that if skateboarders had a place to skate then there would be no problem with skateboarders tresspassing on private property in order to get thier skate on!
