The University of Alabama
To: Dr. Robert Witt, President of The University of Alabama, and
The University of Alabama Administration
The University of Alabama should affirm its commitment to providing a more environmentally-friendly campus by developing a comprehensive recycling program that encompasses all facets of the University; instilling in the students, faculty, and staff of The University of Alabama a sense of stewardship to the environment; and by allowing The University of Alabama to be a community leader in recycling and the sustainability of natural resources.
The University of Alabama has already expressed an obligation to promoting the benefits of recycling and has been improving its operations.
We, the undersigned members of The University of Alabama academic and environmentally conscious community, call for The University of Alabama to support the implementation of the comprehensive recycling program that would call for the following:
A program that will recycle:
➢Aluminum Cans
➢All types of paper
➢Plastics #1-#7
➢Cardboard
➢Newspaper, magazines, phonebooks
A recycling program that will be available in all buildings on campus
Tri-bins on campus that will be recycled
Recycling that will be facilitated at all athletic facilities
Recycling that will be facilitated in all residence halls
Recycling receptacles that will be available at the Property and
Inventory Management building for general drop-offs
We ask that the University affirm its support for the comprehensive recycling program by issuing a declaration of support for recycling, by ensuring the incorporation of recycling into all facets of life on the University of Alabama, and by forming an environmental/sustainability standing committee to serve as a central body for all environmental and sustainability issues on campus.
By implementing a more comprehensive recycling program, The University of Alabama will be able to take pride in the fact that not only will UA be playing a large role in preserving and protecting our natural resources, but UA will also be serving as an example of wise environmental stewardship for local communities in the state of Alabama.
Sincerely,
