The widespread use of anonymous usernames on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Blackberry and other websites, allows comments to be made which cannot always be traced to the real poster. This prevents attributing the comments made to real names and addresses and encourages unaccountable postings and messages. A national insurance number or some other number or code could be used to register. The banks and others use secure logging in systems which provide a guide. Clearly the rioting was being fed by unknown posters. False claims or statements are often made about private individuals and companies who cannot respond to, or challenge untruths. Not to mention the example of a Dragons Den celebrity receiving a kidnap threat to his daughter. I hope this will go some way to clearing up the internet litter that frustrates us all.
