Veteran finds obstacles in attending commemoration in Netherlands

This petition is in suport of Mr. Art Boon, a Stratford Ontario, 90 year old veteran, who has been invited by the Friesland Liberation committee, on behalf of the Friesland government to be an honoured guest to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Holland. This event will occur between May 1-10, 2015. Mr Boon has requested that his son, Rick Boon, who is a teacher in the Avon Maitland School District, accompany him, as has been the practice in recent years of attending celebration ceremonies. This year however, the Avon Maitland School Board has declined his request for unpaid leave, on the basis that they have supported he and his father sufficiently in past years and that they simply could not provide this same approval to other employees if they made similar requests. There is no other family member either available or appropriate and experienced to accompany Mr Boon Sr. on such a journey.
