In the modern global scenario of hypocritical realpolitik; such a petition may not cut much ice. Yet, this is an honest and a sincere attempt at, at least symbolically so, setting the record straight; once and for ever. In this regard, it is hereby exhorted to fellow Indians as well as fellow humans / non-Indians all over, to sign on this petition demanding monetary reparation by Great Britain for India. This is with respect to the ultimate defeat and withdrawal of that nation from the Indian sub-continent after more than a century of utterly unjustified, illegal, inhuman and unethical colonial rule. This could be compared to the humiliating war reparations imposed on the defeated Axis Powers, especially Germany by the victorious Allied Forces after WW-II. Of course, the appropriate reparations amount, which might also be called 'ethical compensation' for human rights abuse; could be to the tune of 20 billion UK pound sterling. It could also be shared by India with Pakistan and Bangladesh as per the population distributions in each of these descendant Nations of the earstwhile so-called 'British India'. This amount should then be spent for entirely humanitarian and socio-economic developmental reasons.
This petition serves as a reminder of the ugly human face from history, and by not forgetting the atrocious injustices perpretrated in the name of world politics. It also attempts to put the record straight by demanding that mere change of an era or a particular level of economic and military strength should not give a nation such as Great Britain the perceived right to apparently block long overdue justice to a proud nation with a proud people and a proud culture; the world's largest democracy!
So, please sign this petition with full zest, vigour and an unflinching belief in what is 'right'...
