Last weekend, Hudson City Schools failed in its attempt to pass a levy that would pay for a variety of expenses throughout the district. As a result of this failure to pass a Levy, Hudson City Schools must dramatically cut their budget to continue educating students in the district. While school board and Superintendent look for ways to trim the budget, the viability of Service Learning at Hudson High School is now in danger of being cut!
For those of you unfamiliar with Service Learning, this wonderful program strives to Educate Students through Social Justice, incorporating English, Government, and Community Service in its curriculum. Service Learning strives to have students become involved with the community, while preparing those students for the rigors of college classes and life outside of the classroom. Below is a list of accomplishments and stats about the difference Service Learning makes:
-Over the past 9 years, we have brought in over $125,000 in grant money to the school district
- Last year, the Service Learning class of 2010 performed 14,875 hours worth of service.
-Each hour of service is worth $20.85 per hour
-We are a model grant 1 of 7 schools in the entire state of Ohio that are given this title.
If you could please sign this petition in support of Hudson High School Service Learning, you will be making a difference for a program that does just that--making a difference in the classroom and the community.
Thank you.
