BACK GROUND
AJMER is an old educational centre of Northen India. It has its Historical & Religious importance in the country. At the time of independence it was one of the strong claimant for the capital of the State due to its location and secular environment. Importance of Ajmer can be judged through -
Historical:
Ajmer had been capital of the Chauhan dynasty with Prithviraj Chauhan being an important ruler who fought with the Mughals and conquered them for as many as fourteen times. Later The Mughals also gave importance to Ajmer. The British settlers also found Ajmer as an important town for controlling their activities of entire Western and Northern parts of the country.
Religious:
Ajmer, a cosmopolitan city, is beyond all religion barriers. The one and only temple of Lord Brahamaji is located here, Dargah Sharif of Khwaja Garib Nawaz makes it a pilgrim centre for the Muslims, The Christians had their first settlement in Ajmer, The Jains, The Sikhs, The Parsis, The Sindhis and name any other religious sect have large population in this city.
Educational:
The lower level of education enjoys an elite status in the city. Ajmer has the most prestigious and internationally renowned institution i.e. MAYO COLLEGE which caters school education to boys as well as girls. Similarly, Missionaries had also started school education from Ajmer more than a century ago and these institutions have imparted quality education to all walks of society, due to which Ajmer has always been considered as a hub of education. During the historic time Ajmer was the only centre of learning of higher education and was the only centre of Agra University which was controlling the higher education in entire Northern India. But, the education in Ajmer had always lacked on technical front and no prime institution has come up to fulfill the needs of the area. Since, the education is mainly centered at lower level the talent of students of the area goes waste as they do not have access to such high level institutions. The mental caliber of the citizens of Ajmer is proven as it is the only 100\% Literate District of the State of Rajasthan.
PARAMETERS VIS-A-VIS ADVANTAGES OF AJMER
Location :
Ajmer enjoys the status of being the heart of Rajasthan. Ajmer is centrally located and thus it becomes an ultimate and ideal choice for establishing the 11T. The distance chart as under proves the above claim:
AJMER DISTANCES
332 Bharatpur
233 497 Bikaner
131 176 321 Jaipur
205 537 243 336 Jodhpur
200 418 432 245 405 Kota
274 581 506 405 260 270 Udaipur
1375 2541 2232 1614 2232 1970 2200 Total
LAND:
The topography of Ajmer becomes a special feature for its claim for the 11 T at Ajmer. Ajmer enjoys the presence of flat table land surrounded by the Arravalli ranges. As per norms 500-700 acres of land is required for an 11 T which is available at Ajmer with a feature that all of it is barren, un-irrigated with very low fertility that makes it ideal as this land will cost nothing to the government and it shall not cause any loss to agriculture as well.
WATER:
For the requirement of water for Ajmer, the Bisalpur project has already been commissioned. The project has 5 TMC of reserve stock of water for the use of Ajmer out of which presently only 1.5 TMC is being used and utilized so far. Thus still there is a reserve share of 3.5 TMC of water which is much more than the requirement.
ADMINISTRATIVE SET UP
Ajmer is Divisional Headquarter and have fully equipped with All administrative set up required to provide, and monitor the activities.
CONNECTIVITY
Ajmer is directly connected through all modes of transport. It is Junction Station of Railways and is directly connected to all parts of the country. It is an important station on Rail Map of India connecting Delhi to Ahmedabad and to the Malwa region as well. As such, the approachable connectivity is at Minimum distance and time from all the adjoining states.
Ajmer is on two National Highways i.e. NH - 8 and NH - 89. Golden Quadrangle Highway is also passing through Ajmer District which enables all the road travelers to reach Ajmer in Minimum possible time. Further, the Mega Highway project connects Ajmer to Northern part of Rajasthan and adjoining states of Punjab/Haryana/J & K directly again at Minimum distance and travel time.
Aerially Ajmer is connected through Jaipur, the only International Airport of Rajasthan and just at one hour drive. No other divisional Headquarter is at such a short distance from International Airport in Rajasthan except Jaipur. So far as Jaipur is concerned, it has already spread in an area of more than 50 Kms and no land for IIT is available at a distance lesser than it. Since, these 50 Kms. Have to be traveled in congested area it takes more travel time than to reach Ajmer. Moreover, this situation will increase the travel time to reach Railway Station or Bus stand at Jaipur, which is of great disadvantage of inconvenience to general public in travel time as well as high cost. Further, Kishangarh in Ajmer is already having landing facility for Air crafts and soon it is also going to be a full fledged Air Port.
FUTURE DEVELOPMENT
Ajmer has been considered to be the most developed Urban Centre and as such it has been chosen under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). The amount of input Ajmer is getting under this Mission will certainly provide high level infrastructure facilities much needed for any prestigious institution.
COMMUNAL HARMONY
Ajmer is represented by all sects and religions. It is main centre of religious belief of Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Parsis, etc. All these different sects and religious people are living in full harmony and peace with no malice towards each other. Ajmer is proud that there has never been any incident of communal riot or disturbance. This peaceful environment is ideal for education of the future generation at all levels.
DIS-ADVANTAGES OF OTHER DIVISIONS:
JAIPUR:
1. Jaipur, being the State Capital, is already over crowded having all sort of problems of highly populated and polluted city. The environment is day by day deteriorating and leading towards suffocation & choking. All sorts of problems are tending towards decentralization of activities. Any educational institution requires healthy environment for development, which is lacking thereat.
2. Jaipur is already having National Institute of Technology which enjoys the status of IIT level. NIT is not being considered for the city having IIT and similarly IIT should not be considered for the city having NIT.
3. Apart from NIT Jaipur is already having three Universities viz. Rajasthan University, Medical University, Sanskrit University.
4. LNIT, a venture of L N Mittal group, is already coming up in Jaipur, which will have more facilities than IIT.
5. Most of the land available in Jaipur is irrigated and lot of problems have already come up while acquiring land in Jaipur for SEZ, etc.
UDAIPUR:
1. Udaipur is already having three Universities viz. Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Agriculture University and Rajasthan Vidhyapeeth University.
2. IIT, Mumbai is establishing its campus at Gandhinagar in Gujrat which is proposed to be converted into full fledged I I T in near future. This is at a very short distance from Udaipur.
3. The city is a famous tourism destination at National and International level, which not only makes it crowded through out the year but also is costly in comparison to Ajmer.
4. Udaipur is situated at the southern part of Rajasthan and thus is at far distance from all other parts of the State. Moreover, it is not well connected either through rail or road from all parts of the country.
KOTA:
1. Kota is also having three Universities viz. Kota Open University, Technical University and Kota University.
2. Kota has become a hub of Coaching Institutes creating unhealthy environment and ethics. Due to this problem examination centre for entrance examination had already been withdrawn from Kota in 1998.
3. Kota is situated at the south-eastern part of Rajasthan and thus is at far distance from all other parts of the State. Moreover, it is not well connected either through rail or road from all parts of Rajasthan. It also lacks connectivity from other parts of country except Delhi -Mumbai.
4. The entire land mass of Kota Division is very fertile and irrigated. The productivity is high and using such land for purposes other than agriculture is playing with the need of agriculture produce, nature, environment and ecological balance.
5. During the monsoon season Kota remains water logged for a long period and gets disconnected from all places through road and rail. Long period of water logging also creates water borne diseases which is not good for students.
JODHPUR:
1. Jodhpur is also having three Universities viz. Jai Narayan Vyas University, National Law University and Rajasthan Ayurveda University.
2. The only AIIMS of the State is coming up at Jodhpur.
3. Jodhpur is situated at the western part of Rajasthan and thus is at far distance from all other parts of the State. Moreover, it is near to Border area and having problems for security matters at times.
4. Jodhpur being on Western side remains very hot in summers and cold in winters due to western winds.
CONCLUSION
In view of all the above facts, Ajmer is the most ideal place for setting up of 11 T. It is centrally located, enjoys very moderate climate, pollution free, intellectually populated, well connected to all parts of Rajasthan/Country, etc. It is having only one university i.e. MDS university and that too a non-teaching university.
AJMER IS FULFILLING ALL THE REQUIRED NORMS FOR ESTABLISHMENT OF I.I.T. AND I.I.T. IN RAJASTHAN SHOULD BE ESTABLISHED IN AJMER ONLY.
