Microsoft needs to have basic standards in place that ALL Xbox 360 games MUST meet in regards to online/Live functionality.
These would include such things as:
Lobbies that allow gamers to gather and keep together after each match.
The ability for the host to make the game private or open and be able to remove any player.
Be notified via on screen prompts when someone enters or leaves the game.
Icons that show you who is talking.
