A call for Government of India to repeal POTA and free Mr. Vaiko and other political prisoners arrested under POTA immediately

We the undersigned, petition the Government of India to repeal the ill-devised POTA immediately and thereby restore democratic expression and freedom of speech that are allowed in any civilized nation.
Furthermore, we insist that the Government of India free immediately Mr. Vaiko, the leader of the MDMK party and Member of Parliament, and all other political prisoners imprisoned under POTA. Mr. Vaiko and his party have been functioning democratically for more than a decade, without resorting to any violence or non-democratic means. While he has been behind bars since July 11, 2002 (more than one year), other state governments have been releasing some political prisoners arrested under POTA. Release of Mr. Vaiko and other political prisoners will certainly enhance Indias image as a model democracy in the world arena.
