A Petition to the Town of Carleton Place to Provide the Carleton Place Farmers Market with a Long-Term Site in the Downtown Core

Petition Summary and Background

It is recognized that the Carleton Place Farmers Market (CPFM) at its current location at 7 Beckwith Street in Carleton Place:

1) Supports local agriculture and small business by offering a venue for sales, marketing and networking between vendors and customers.

2) Acts as a gathering place for socializing and entertainment for the residents of Carleton Place and the surrounding area.

3) Does not have a long-term lease agreement with the Town of Carleton Place (currently there is a year-to-year lease agreement between the CPFM and the Town at this location).

4) Requires a three-season, multi-use facility in order to increase revenues and maximize its value to agriculture, small business, customers and the community.


We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who respectfully request the following of the Town of Carleton Place:

1) Enter into a long-term lease agreement with the CPFM so they may use the 7 Beckwith Street as their market site (or other suitable location in the Downtown core agreeable to both parties if the current location is re-developed).

2) Work with the CPFM, other levels of government and local stakeholders to provide a three-season facility (April to November) that would be available to the Market as well as other local groups in the community.
