ABC: Renew "Detroit 1-8-7!"

We believe that the television series "Detroit 1-8-7," is an excellent program that deserves a second season. ABC Entertainment Group president Paul Lee, had this to say about the show at the recent TCA Winter Press Tour: "We haven't made our decisions yet on a second season. I'm not saying I wouldn't have liked it to have stayed with high numbers, because it's an extremely high-quality show...it's a really gritty, brilliantly written show which we're very proud of. So do we hope it comes back. We're not going to make those decisions probably for another two to three months, I have to say."

Given ABC's track record, this does not give "Detroit 1-8-7's" fans much hope for the continuation of a fantastic new show. Those of us who followed this series from the start know that it just gets better and better, with great storylines and a cast of talented performers who bring so much to their characters with each episode. To cut short "Detroit 1-8-7" would be a travesty - tired, routine, boring programs like "Grey's Anatomy" and "Private Practice" are renewed despite being creatively bankrupt and overhyped. And as far as Nielsen ratings go, I don't believe that they are accurate and shouldn't be relied upon to decide if a show stays or not. ABC, if you don't have faith in this outstanding series, please shop it around to another network. It deserves success.
