Amend Lenoir Countys Noise Ordinance

As a citizen of Lenoir County, I, feel that I am being held hostage by ."boom car" owners, my friends, neighbors, and I feel that our rights and sanity are constantly under assault from annoying "boom car" owners who have installed extremely loud amplifiers and subwoofers in their vehicles. Obviously, these individuals have mistakenly misinterpreted the First Amendment's guarantees . It appears that a majority of them believe that living in a "free" society entitles them to violate the rights and activities of other citizens in their neighborhoods and communities. You cannot escape the noise even in your own house, the pounding sounds from the loud car stereo systems in "boom cars" can be heard and felt several blocks away. The noise is incessant, irritating, invasive, unhealthy, and should be illegal.
Are you, as a community official, aware of the detrimental effects of "boom cars?" Did you know that constant exposure to their extremely high sound levels can cause hearing loss, particularly in children and the elderly; sleep disturbances; stress and depression; and retaliatory aggression? Some police officers support tougher laws against "boom car" owners because their cars pose a serious threat to other drivers' ability to hear the sounds of approaching emergency vehicles, train horns, and other warning sounds designed for safety .
The "boom car" menace has increased tremendously in recent years, so much so that many localities have enacted, or are in the process of updating existing noise ordinances to regulate the noise pollution created by these cars.
We, the undersigned, respectfully request that the County Commissioners amend the existing Noise Ordinance to address this problem in Lenoir County.
