It is well known that this country currently has a very large trade imbalance. It's well known that many, if not all computers sold in the United States are manufactured in other countries. We are not asking for Apple Inc. to stop all production in foreign factories. We understand many people still have the perception that the Macintosh is significantly more expensive than any other computer. However, we do believe many People in this and, possibly other countries, would be interested in buying Apple products manufactured in the USA. We realize that most, if not all components will still be made outside the US being you cannot control that. However, at least the final products would be assembled in the United States. Because the Apple online store already offers build to order options, we are proposing that Apple offers the option of the product being assembled in the US. We do realize this would add to the cost of the product, but we strongly believe that enough people would be willing to pay the premium for the knowledge that the product would be, as much as possible, made in the USA by US citizens. We hope you don't look at this as a way that would bring too much unwanted attention to the fact that Apple computers are Made in China and other countries. The same is of course true about some, if not all, your competition. We believe that a plant could exist in the US to cover your whole product line, either initially or it could start with one product and expand with increased demand. You may never see more than 50\% of the product line made in the US factory, but I believe it will be more than enough to justify the costs involved. It's unknown how many people that can be reached with this online petition, so Please remember this is just a sample.
Please only sign this if you are very serous about following through with the commitment to spend potentially hundreds more for the proposed "assembled in USA" option. Obviously, this figure is just a guess. I have no way to calculate actual additional expenses. Hopefully, if this petition and the "assembled in USA" Apple product initiative is successful, over time the cost per custom order will decline due to the distribution of the fixed costs involved in running an additional plant. Please keep in mind the purpose is to convince Apple this will make sense financially. As much as I would like to see several hundred thousand signatures attached to this, I believe it is just as important that those signatures translate to sales for this petition is successful.
