Better Drivers By Law

We, the undersigned, feel a major overhaul of the system that dispenses Drivers Licenses is necessary, and long overdue. Further, we agree that the public transportation systems available are inadequate, which exacerbates many problems by forcing people to need personal transportation. We have included our political affiliations to show strong Multi-Partisan support for the changes outlined herein.
We agree upon the following things:
1. Drivers and driving have become increasingly dangerous throughout the years, due to rushed DMV centers and lack of proper driver training.
2. Far too many people who become incapable of driving are allowed to retain their licenses, endangering innocent lives.
3. Public Transportation is woefully inadequate. Buses are unreliable, trains are too expensive, and air travel has been ruined by excessive security.
4. That to fix these problems, new legislation must be enacted which increases the difficulty of driver's license tests, applies a fee of at least $100 to every license, requires re-testing every 7 years to ensure compliance with constantly changing laws and road conditions, and which uses the increased revenue to bolster our failing public transportation system.
It is our belief that such legislation will result in the following:
1. Reduced risk for drivers state-wide, as only those with proper driving skills will be afforded the privilege of a license.
2. Freedom of law enforcement to pursue more dangerous criminal activities, by diverting resources from traffic enforcement to criminal investigation units. With fewer "bad" drivers on the road, fewer police will be needed to enforce driving laws.
3. Reduced pollution, as people without licenses will be forced to carpool or use public transportation.
4. Reduced traffic, as fewer drivers will be on roadways, resulting in increased productivity for freight transport, decreased response time for all emergency personnel, and the possibility of narrowed highways to accommodate new businesses.
5. Improved public transportation systems, as the increased funds received from drivers tests (both failed and passed) will be used to increase coverage of buses in metropolitan and suburban areas.
6. Fewer dollars spent on roadway repair related to accidents and collisions, due to better drivers being less likely to have such incidents.
