CRIMINAL CODE SECTION 419 NEEDS TO BE AMMENDED FOR VETERANS AND FAMILIES OF DECEASED VETERANS

Canadians commit a criminal act when they wear the medals of a Canadian Veteran WITHOUT LAWFUL EXCUSE AS QUOTED IN SECTION 419. Some veterans have requested in their wills and last wishes that their children be allowed to DISPLAY THEIR MEDALS ON THEIR RIGHT CHEST DURING REMEMBRANCE DAY CEREMONIES IN THEIR honour, WITH THE NAME OF THE SOLDIER WHO EARNED THE MEDALS. Their wishes cannot be honoured UNTIL SECTION 419 IS CLARIFIED. Our Veterans died for our freedom. Their children should be free to honour them in a simple way so that their medals are retained and not lost or trashed. In Great Britain, New Zealand and Australia, family of veterans are allowed to wear medals on their right chest.

The law was made to punish impersonators of Veterans and that is good. We simply want an amendment to honour the wishes of some Veterans

Please join us in appealing to the Federal Government to right this injustice by adding the following clause to Section 419 of our Criminal Code.

It is not a criminal offence for a family member of a deceased veteran to display the medals on the right chest during Remembrance Day Ceremonies and other similar events honouring Veterans.”UNDER SECTION 419 THIS WOULD BE CONSIDERED LAWFUL EXCUSE.
