A recent research published in UK's medical journal The Lancet warned that a bacteria called Superbug NDM-1 could spread around the world quickly and there are potentially no drug for it due to it's resistance for Anti-biotics.
India has called claims from British scientists that killer superbug NDM-1 has spread to the UK from India as "malicious propaganda".
What is disturbing for us is, this bacteria is named after the capital city of our country: NDM-1 stands for New Delhi Metallo-1. This has created a misconception and a feeling that the point of origin of the bacteria is in India.
India and our capital city has a great history associated with it. We don't want the name of countrys capital to be known with the name of a bacteria that has the potential to spread everywhere and potentially kill thousands of people.
We request "International Committee on Systematics of Prokaryotes (ICSP)" to avoid using "New Delhi" in the name of this bacteria which is currently called "New Delhi Metallo-1".
