Change the use of the term 'Incompetent Cervix' in the ICD-10

Change diagnosis and use of the term 'incompetent cervix' This diagnosis is not rooted in medical science but instead reflects the socio-cultural context in which the value of womanhood depends on her being able to successfully have children. A similar term is not used for men when they have low sperm counts or are unable to have children. This term is still being used as a legitimate to teach medical students and nurses and is listed several times in the ICD-10 Version:2010. Surely the BMA should be at least debate the psychological impact of telling a woman already distraught at the potential risk of losing and or has lost her baby that her 'cervix is incompetent', that she is other words is incompetent! We must effect change and we must try to do it now.
