We the undersigned represent a growing population of Tamil-speaking people in the United States. We are approximately 350,000 Tamils living across the US with SIGNIFICANT concentration in large urban centers like the San Francisco Bay Area, Greater Los Angeles metro area, Greater New York metro area, Chicagoland, and the greater Atlanta metro area. This number to put it in perspective is HALF the population of North Dakota, if we were all to move to one state.
However, while dish operators (like Dish network) have started to carry Tamil channels, Comcast has ignored the needs of such a large and VERY profitable customer segment (The median income of the Indian American is $51,600 compared to the overall average household income of $41,600). While Comcast has heard the voice of the North Indian community in areas like the San Francisco Bay Area, the large South Indian community has largely been ignored.
As current Comcast subscribers, we would like to request you to carry Tamil channels - most notably Sun TV (http://www.sunnetwork.org/suntv) and other channels of the sun network which represents the entertainment choices of the majority of the South Indian population.
