Dear Prime Minister, please sack the tainted Congress leaders from your party NOW!

When Dr. Manmohan Singh took over the reins of this great nation, there was a real sense of optimism and palpable relief at the thought that for once after a long, long time a politicians chair was being occupied by a man of genuine standing; someone who most people perceived as a statesman. Dr. Singhs sense of integrity, his clean, apolitical past and his innate humanism gave the right to the most cynical amongst us to expect more than a fair measure of accountability from the Government of India.

Alas, for one more excruciating time now, that hope has been cruelly belied.

The Nanavati Panel Report is out. 21 years after the horrifying carnage that we now recognize as a gruesome massacre of innocent Sikhs in the winter of 84, and many, many grueling hearings later, the commission has spoken.

Justice G. T. Nanavati has clearly, unequivocally pointed the needle of suspicion at senior Congress leaders namely; Union Minister, Jagdish Tytler, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Kamalnath and Parliamentarian, Sajjan Kumar. It has accused them of inciting and organizing blood-thirsty mobs out to take revenge and wreck havoc on innocent people of one particular community. In any civilized nation state, these men would have inspired public revulsion and been deemed as potentially dangerous and their political masters would have disowned them and finished off their political careers.

However, the governments response in its Action taken Report (ATR), tabled simultaneously with the main report has been one of vacillation and brazenness. One would have expected a Government headed by a man of Dr. Singhs stature to react for once with a sense of moral obligation to his real constituency, that is THE PEOPLE OF INDIA. Ordinary Indians like YOU and ME who have a right to expect that JUSTICE is done and SEEN TO BE DONE. Ordinary Indians like YOU and ME owe it to the survivors of that shameful episode in Independent Indias history to bring our rulers to their senses.

Let us demand that these people be asked to resign or sacked from their political posts and their membership to the Congress party revoked for all time to come - WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT. Lets not forget for a moment that Gujarat 2002 happened because we let the perpetrators of Mumbai 1992-93 go unpunished. And Mumbai 1992-93 happened, because we let Delhi 1984 go unpunished. How long shall we, the citizens of India, allow ourselves to be hoodwinked by our politicians? Mores the shame when we sit back and realize that its Dr. Singh at the helm of affairs!

An online petition has been created by Vistasp Hodiwala, an ordinary citizen of this country to protest against the Central Governments stand on the Action Taken Report. The petition asks the Central Government to sack the tainted Congress leaders as parliamentarians and from all positions at the party level and revoke their primary membership from the Congress Party WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT.
