Extension of SBS Radio Tamil language service

The Tamil community is a large one, and includes Tamils from Sri Lanka,
India, and diasporic Tamils from places such as Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, Mauritius and Fiji.
According to the 2006 Australian Census data, there are more than 32,000 Tamil speakers living in Australia. This figure does not include recent permanent arrivals as well as large number of temporary skilled migrants coming from Tamil Nadu to work in Australia. The Australian Tamil community, therefore is steadily growing.
At the moment, SBS Radio only offers a one hour Tamil language national
service. We would like to request that SBS Radio extend this service to two
hours per week to meet the demands of a growing Tamil community of listeners.
