Gas Prices in The United Sates

The latter part of 2003 and the first three months of 2004 has seen gas prices go from $1.40 to a current $1.74 (in Vermont). A thirty-four (34) cent increase in just 5 months is totally out of line. I just saw on TV that gas prices in California are a hefty $2.75 a gallon. I cannot be convinced that pockets of dealers and oil companies are not being lined while breaking the backs of people who are already trying to survive. I heard one oil company try and tell the public, their increase was due to new equipment and I say to that BULL! Upgrading of equipment is part of doing business, not to mention the tax breaks they get also.
We the undersigned Citizens of The United States of American come before you in this petition to ask that Congress place an immediate cap on gasoline prices.
Many citizens must already make hard choices about their finances and adding one more is not needed.
You have the power to make IMMEDIATE decisions in this matter and we ask you to place an immediate cap on prices.
