Some families who have loved one's buried in Bohernabreena Cemetery have received official letters from South Dublin County Council that threaten to remove family items from graves.
Many of the families have been maintaining their own plots for years as is a tradition in Ireland. These people are really upset by these insensitive threats. They have spent hundreds if not thousands of Euros on books and other plaques. The Lawn section has been open since 2005 but many of the families say they were not aware of these regulations. There are now signs at the entrance saying items may be removed. Some families have solar lights as well as religious personal/ items bordering the graves and are being told they have to be removed
The bottom line is that families don't want strangers or officials walking or driving mowers over their loved ones graves.
We call on South Dublin County Council NOT to impose these rules on these people.
