HOV/Roadway expansion

The U.S. department of transportation should expand H.O.V. (highly occupied vehicle) lanes to more highways in the U.S. and update the timing on traffic lights or convert them to a traffic sensing system. Also expand highway capacity and step up the effort in recondition the existing highway surfaces. They should do this to reduce the wasted fuel of people sitting in traffic and the pollution that it causes. The roadways are expanding at a much slower rate the people are buying cars. The D.O.T. is not fulfilling its responsibly to the public to provide the roadways that the public needs however it can do this by heeding the suggestions previously mentioned.
