Governments across the world do not provide enough financial support towards diabetes research. Diabetes is a chronic, devastating disease affecting every organ system.
There are two major types of diabetes: Type 1 diabetes - an autoimmune disease also known as juvenile diabetes, and Type 2 diabetes - metabolic disorder also known as adult onset diabetes. Taking insulin does not cure any type of diabetes nor prevent the possibility of its eventual and harmful effects: kidney failure, blindness, nerve damage, amputation, heart attack, and stroke.
Million of people have diabetes; diabetes kills one American every three minutes. Sixteen million Americans have the disease; of this amount 5.4 million are undiagnosed. Diabetes afflicts 120 million people worldwide, and the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that number will skyrocket to 300 million by 2025.
