Independent Crown ISP

In the wake of recent decisions by Many of Canadas largest ISPs to do away with unlimited download offerings in favor of consumption-based models, where users are billed extra if they exceed a given cap; many Canadians are feeling abandoned and left out to dry. Customers who had previously enjoyed unlimited access now have a cap and have to pay substantially more to use bandwidth they previously had access to.

Additionally Many of Canadas largest ISPs are engaging in traffic-shaping activities to make it difficult to use the bandwidth you're legitimately paying for. We believe this is unacceptable and that ISPs such as Rogers, Bell, and Shaw Communications are using their existing monopolies and lack of competition to force consumers to accept these changes.

Therefore, we the undersigned are petitioning the Government of Canada to establish (or at least explore the idea) an independent Crown Corporation to provide affordable, competitive internet services to all Canadians.

The investment and establishment of a National framework to provide this service would benefit all Canadians, increase competition, and enhance the existing broadband networks already existing in Canada.
