The building of this Hydroelectric Power project will led to fragmentation of the ecosystem, decreasing bio-diversity in the area and geographical, ecological and climatic conditions of its surrounding will change dramatically. The most affecting will be the indigenous Kuki community.
It is also home to birds and animals like tigers, elephants, rhinoceros, wild bears, wild pigs, mithuns etc. Besides the building of this Dam would endanger the lives of these animals. The rare rhinoceros population of Htamanthi (Burmas largest national park) has been almost completely wipe out since 1974, besides the building of this (Dam) will add fuel to the fire and the animals are likely to extinct.
Most of the hard works will be done by the ethnic Kukis with force labor, and force and uncompensated relocation of more than 35 Indigenous Kuki villages.
About half of the power generated from the dam will be selling off to India and the remaining will be used locally which would led to influx pf poverty stricken Burma from central Burma to minimized the Indigenous Kukis in the region.
All the monetary gain will make the military power double in the region and purchasing of arms and other destructive weapons to crush the ethnic groups and pro-democracy supporters.
