Mandatory infant restraints to be used in taxis or vehicles used for private hire

We the undersigned petition the government to make it mandatory for infant car seats/restraints to be used in taxis or vehicles used for private hire for children under 3 years of age. Currently a child under 3 years of age can travel in a taxi or vehicle used for private hire unrestrained if an appropriate restraint is not available. Without a legal mandate very few taxis and vehicles for private hire make the infant car seats/restraints available to their customers. It is not always practical for the customer to supply their own car seat/restraint for all journeys.  Taxis and vehicles used for private hire should NOT be excluded from the laws governing the use of infant car seats/restraints in other vehicles. Making the use of restraints mandatory will force the industry to accommodate these young passengers who are at the same risk as other passengers in the vehicle.
