2. Smt. Ambika Soni - Minister of Tourism and Minister of Culture.
3. Smt. Renuka Chowdhury - Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Women & Child Development
We, the concerned citizens of India, deeply shaken by the incident in Mangalore, appeal to you to find a permanent solution to the repeated violence and attacks on women, being carried out in the name of Indian culture.
As a response, we have started an online group called Kamasutra Day A celebration of Indian culture which, at the time of this petition has a membership of over 2,400 people from all over the world.
The objective of the group is to draw attention to the various ways in which Indian culture is being conveniently interpreted. We reproduce below, verbatim, the objective of Kamasutra Day as it appears online:
In response to the Shri Ram Sena's clarion call that Indian culture is the only thing that Indians should celebrate, we have decided to declare the March 1 as World Kamasutra Day.
So please join in and contribute to how this great event that is based truly and purely on Indian culture can be celebrated.
We appeal to you to act immediately on the following:
1. To declare March 1 as World Kamasutra Day. After careful research, we have concluded that the Kamasutra is an essential element of Indian culture and therefore needs to be recognized in its own right.
2. To expedite legal proceedings against the elements of the Shri Ram Sene that were responsible for the terrible happenings in Mangalore.
3. To prepare, present a Government document that clearly defines what Indian Culture is, with special emphasis on the status that has been accorded to women throughout the many millennia of Indian history.
