Military Service Number Privacy & Security

Removing the first 5 digits of members' social security numbers from the newer DOD ID cards is simply a half-measure because the full SSN still appears on other often shared documents, as well as the dog tags required to be turned over to terrorists and other enemies, if captured.
It was not that long ago that military service numbers were assigned by the Department of Defense many of Americas veterans can still recite their service number today with pride, but WITHOUT fear of an invasion of privacy!
It is well recognized that the DOD practice of using social security numbers as military ID numbers puts military members and their families at risk of identity fraud, invasions of privacy, and other dangers.
Further, forcing our captured soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines to provide their confidential social security number to terrorists or other enemy elements is OUTRAGEOUS, and directly implicates the safety and well being of family members at home, and our national security.
