We, the undersigned would like you (Subway) to cease selling halal meat and to prohibit your franchises from selling halal meat.
We understand and appreciate that meat prepared in this way has a religious significance for some inhabitants of Great Britain but we also believe that to purposely slit a live, unanaesthetised animal's throat and leave it to bleed to death is cruel and barbaric.
Exsanguination is a very painful and frightening way to die. The practice has been condemned by many respected bodies, including the RSPCA, PETA and the British Union of Farmers.
Instead of continuing to sell and promote this procedure, we would ask you to work with the religious leaders concerned in an attempt to come up with a symbolic ritual that would be more acceptable.
Until this is done, we, the undersigned, will not be purchasing at Subway again.
