Open Your Eyes Dilli- A campaign on political awareness

Petition for: Accountability and transparency of the Councilors to the people Addressed to: The Mayor of Delhi We, the undersigned, would like to bring the problem regarding the communication gap between the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and its people to your attention and suggest recommendations to improve the situation. We claim the above mentioned problem on the basis of our interaction with people across various communities in Delhi which includes the Councilors in few wards as well through our campaign OYE DILLI which is being run by a group of few volunteers from colleges all across Delhi. Through street plays, fliers, social audits and other innovative tools they ventured out into wards like Kamla Nagar, Sriniwaspuri and Malviya Nagar. Our study and assessment post the interaction affirmed that there is a huge communication gap between the two stakeholders (the people and their representatives). The system is so intricate that most of the time, people are clueless about whom to approach for basic amenities like water, sewage system, roads etc.Clear directions and adequate, timely help should be granted by the MCD. In order to make the system more accountable towards people we would like to list down few suggestions which if implemented might solve problems to a large extent. (Suggestions) - Monthly Ward Meetings held between the Councilors and people. - Clear instructions should be provided to every Councilor to set up boards outside their offices in every ward, displaying information on the funds utilized by them in clear and simple Hindi language. - A helpline number should be set up for people to call in case they are facing problems regarding any civic issue in terms of water, maintenance of parks and roads, sewage treatment etc. Also, it should provide information on various departments which function in the Delhi Government. - The website should be updated so that the citizens of Delhi are aware about the tasks being undertaken and accomplished by the MCD. The link of the website should be mentioned on the MCD boards installed in every Ward.
