I am highly upset to learn about Walmart wanting to invade our precious town. We do not need a Walmart and all the trouble it will bring with it. Having a Walmart in Crofton will destroy the economic and environmental value of land. It will encourage an inefficient land-use pattern that is very expensive to serve. It will force costly infrastructure development at the edge of town. It will cause disinvestment from established core commercial areas.
It will also degrade the visual, aesthetic character of our community. It will lower the value of other commercial and residential property, reducing public revenues. It will weaken the sense of place and community cohesiveness that Crofton strongly has. It masquerades as a form of economic development, but truly is not. If you study Walmart's patterns in other American towns, they will often start off with a "smaller" discount store and then phase in expansion of a Super Center or shut down the store all together. This is not what Crofton is about. We also do not need the traffic problems the rest of the DC Metro area faces. Please keep Walmart out of our city and put Crofton First!

The proposed building site for this commercial development is home to many endangered species. We need to get the environmentalists involved to show that the land is home for many wild animals which are currently on the endangered list. NO WALMART!!

The trafffic on Rt. 3 is congested enough w/out a large shopping area. The K-mart is a good store. Walmart would have an adverse affect on its business.
