Peaceonmoney, Put Dr. King on Money
Sign Now
If some critics say that Dr. King was a religious not a secular figure and therefore should not be commemorated on money, let us remember the unique experience of Black Americans. The Black church WAS the only place that afforded the privilege of confidential and secure assembly to African Americans, a right that most others had by virtue of the First Amendment. So, the Black church was both a religious and POLITICAL institution and Dr. King's leadership in it should in no way disqualify him from being on currency based on any "separation of church and state" considerations.
We implore you, the Director of the United States Mint, to suggest the appropriate legislation or do whatever is necessary to begin the process of honoring Dr. Martin Luther King by putting him on some form of regularly circulated United States currency. Let Dr. King still show us the way. Peaceonmoney.
