PETITION FOR UNSW - OBTRUSIVE STUDENT ELECTION CAMPAIGNING
Sign Now
We the undersigned (Students and Staff of the University of New South Wales) petition the aforementioned, to draft these recommendations regarding the obtrusive nature of Student elections and campaigning in and around the UNSW campus.
A bad political culture around UNSW has emerged, and we the undersigned feel this needs to be regulated so that the majority of students and staff around UNSW can move freely and enjoy their university education and campus life without the fear of being harrassed 10-20 times in one day.
1. Disallow students from obtrusively campaigning in traffic choke-points around campus, such as the quadrangle and Central Lecture Block.
2. Disallow student election parties from chasing after and harrassing potential 'votee's'.
4. Set clearly visible polling booths, so a student can vote if he/she wishes, instead of being coerced into voting.
3. Set localised areas for student campaigning, that do not intrude on the day-to-day activities of campus life, this would be in and around the polling booth area.
4. Voting during student election campaigning should be optional, not mandatory - and this needs to be enforced.
