Provide a Cornish ethnicity tick box on the next national Census

On the 2001 national census Cornish people were for the first time allocated the UK ethnic group code of '06' and 37,000 people recorded their identity as Cornish. However without a specific Cornish tick box there was confusion regarding the options available as Cornish people first had to deny being British and then write in 'Cornish' in the 'others' box. Additionally the decision to collect information on the Cornish identity was extremely badly publicised and many were unaware of the new code.
It was recently confirmed by the ONS that extra tick box response categories will be added to the next Census for those people wishing to describe their identity as Welsh and English but there is 'insufficient space' for a Cornish tick box. Was this decision approved by the Government or does the ONS have the authority to make such decisions independently ? We call upon the Westminster Government and the Office for National Statistics to include a specific Cornish tick box in the next Census so giving the Cornish people the right to clearly record their identity. This would give them parity with the other indigenous Celtic nations and national minorities of Great Britain.

Cornwall is an ancient country, one of the only Celtic bits of Britain left and hardly anyone (in Canada or non-British areas) have even heard of it!
There should at least be some kind of recognition. There are people petitioning to save tribes in Africa
