We, the undersigned residents and business owners of the Fairview Fire District, are seeking immediate tax relief for property owners and financial assistance for our fire department.
The amount of tax exempt properties within the Fairview Fire District boundaries has grown to approximately 80\% and has resulted in the remaining actual taxpayers bearing the financial burden for essential emergency services. In addition, the saturation of tax exempt properties continues to have a significant impact on the total property tax bill.
In 2007, the Fairview Fire District responded to 1,817 incidents and approximately over 50\% of them were to tax exempt properties that demand the many services of the Fairview Fire District. It is almost certain that the demand will increased as the schools, colleges, churches, hospitals, institutions, government buildings and other tax exempt properties continue to expand at a rapid rate while the tax base decreased at an even greater rate. As a result, the life safety of citizens and emergency responders is in jeopardy due to a shortage of personnel able to handle daily emergencies and lack of funding to help mitigate the situation.
The Time has come for local, state and federal government officials to provide tax relief to the taxpayers of the Fairview Fire District and provide financial assistance to the department so that essential fire and emergency services can be provided at a cost that is divided equally.
