P E T I T I O N

T0 THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF MANITOBA:
TO THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WINNIPEG:

The background to this petition is as follows:

1. That the hockey fans and families of this province and city support
the return of the Western Hockey League to the Winnipeg market area,
providing family-friendly, cost effective entertainment choices.

2. That the excitement created by a home team in the WHL, whose young
players stay with the team throughout the whole season and playoffs,
creates an affordable family entertainment opportunity.

3. That the hockey fans of this province and city do not agree with
exclusivity clauses, forced protectionism, nor secretly signed
documents locking out attempts to return any alternative professional
sports choices to the AHL, in Winnipeg and 100 km radius market area.

4. That the elimination of open competition for the discretionary income
of families will lead to higher costs and poorer entertainment and
sport opportunities in Manitoba and Winnipeg.

We petition the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba as follows:

1. To request both provincial and city elected officials to facilitate
the return of WHL JUNIOR HOCKEY to the Winnipeg marketplace.

2. To REQUEST both provincial and city elected officials FAIRLY AND
EQUALLY DEAL WITH THE PRIVATE SECTOR PROPONENTS EFFORTS TO CREATE
A VENUE ARRANGEMENT FINANCIALLY SUITABLE TO THE COMMUNITY.
