Do you really think Shane Battier's value as a player is more than Stromile Swifts and Rudy Gays combined? How can Shane Battier's 10 pts/5 rebounds be greater then Swifts 10 pts/5 rebs and Gays 10 pts/5 rebs (at least). All these other teams are adding athleticism while we are getting rid of them for slow moving players - Battier and Novak.
If you did not get your first choice who is Brandon Roy, why not settle with Rudy Gay. Is your line of thinking Brandon Roy then Shane Battier, then someone else then some else then Rudy Gay? Do you hate Rudy Gay as a player that you have to get rid of him this fast and at this cheap. Same for Stromile Swift. You just basically gave in to the first team with an offer. Can't you be more patient and prudent with your moves?
Bottom line a lot of people - fans, coaches, players, critics around the league and all over the world don't think that Shane Battier won't be a difference and trading Rudy Gay and Stromile Swift for just him is totally stupid and dump. Worse than past mistakes passing up Rashard Lewis and trading Richard Jefferson and Collins away. Worse than trading Cassell and Horry for Barkley.

Relatively speaking, Battier is a BUST! Gay on his bad days can duplicate the #'s Battier averaged last season (10pts/5rbs). We needed a consistent 3rd option, length, and athleticism. Battier is old, slow for his size, and for his career, a below average
