with autism. We are forwarding to you a petition to ask that you
co-sponsor S.843 The Combating Autism Act of 2005, recently introduced by
Senators Santorum and Dodd.
This bill would substantially increase the federal response to the
new epidemic of childhood autism and would make that response much
smarter and more effective. As the original sponsorship by Senators
Santorum and Dodd shows, the bill is bi-partisan and non-
ideological.
We are asking for your support because autism is a growing epidemic.
Ten years ago autism was diagnosed 1 out of 10,000 children and
considered a rare disorder. Today, autism is affects 1 out of 166
children - in my family, we are all affected by autism. By co-
sponsoring this bill, you will increase the pace and progress of
autism research for my child and the hundreds of other families in
Vermont.
Please contact contact Jen Vesey with Senator Santorum at (202) 224-
6324 or Jim Fenton with Senator Dodd at (202) 224-2823 to co-sponsor
S.843 as soon as possible and help us get the federal support we
need to address the autism epidemic.
