Perhaps the highest-def audio formats for BluRay et. al. will ultimately render SACD superfluous...but until that happens, SACD is the only format which doesn't sound to me like a step back from the audio quality achievable on Lp.

Multi channel is a gimmick we're not concerned about. We love the enhanced resolution. As these are compatible with normal CD players, why not make everything a SACD release? That way the market is flooded with the discs, then re-promote the format.
