Small change, big difference campaign : Save The Lake

Many of you by now are aware (or are you?) that the lake that has been an integral part of our daily visual perception is on the verge of transforming into a concrete monstrosity. The developer has justified the development by stating that it has got all the necessary approvals for the development. Unfortunately such documentation has not been shown to the "stakeholders" either by the developer nor by the policing agency, MBPJ. The Question is "Has the developer followed all the protocols necessary for the development?"

By "stakeholders" I mean all humans, animals, plants and microorganisms that are directly and indirectly linked or utilizing the lake. All of us at PNK are direct stakeholders of the lake and so are the visitors who come to PNK; so are the school children and teachers; nearby residents from the low cost flats; Ara Damansara, and the adjacent condos. Even fishing enthusiasts who come as far as Cheras are stakeholders to the lake.

It is sad that PNK has 468 units that may house approximately 1872 individuals (taking 4 persons per household on the average, but only a trickle of that number turned up for the peaceful protest that was recently carried out. Kudos to those who turned up! Mind you there were many children even as young as 2/3 years old who braved the heat during the day. What happened to the rest? I am referring to owners who are staying at PNK. I can understand that some would have had prior engagements but I do not believe that the rest had appointments on the same day - too much of a mathematical probability!!

The developer can put an economic value to the mall project but no one can actually put a value to a lake (even if it is man made). Look at the pictures that have been put in the forum (www.puncaknusakelana.com),the website (www.pnkora.com),newspapers (notably The Star and Malay Mail) and other links to show the beauty of the lake. This is the aesthetic value - can you put a RM value to that? Consider the lake being turned into a recreation area, sporting area - cardiovascular area, fishing area, family area. Consider your family utilizing the lake area and imagine walking round the lake and meeting people and making new friends in a stress free environment. We are already stressed from work and one of humanity's greatest disease/disorder/threat is how to manage and minimize stress. By GOD, we have the means and the chance to make this happen!

Please bear in mind that to make a change numbers are important - "bersatu teguh bercerai roboh". You have to be courageous enough when to say NO and also when to demand for good quality of life. Good quality of life is not measured by the amount of money that you can or may amass and have, but rather by the environment that surrounds you. A good quality of life is measured by your stress levels and the amount of time you spend with your loved ones. Remember also that good quality of life is your RIGHT!

So, what then can we do to save our lake, our environment, our medicine for stress, our responsibility to other organisms? Be courageous to demand for that change and to stand by that courage. The only way to save the lake is by large numbers informing and educating the developer and the powers that control the issuing orders of the development.

LETS ALL HELP EACH OTHER TO IMPROVE OUR QUALITY OF LIFE AND BE BETTER FRIENDS AND HAVE A FLOURISHING COMMUNITY LIVING AT PUNCAK NUSA KELANA AND AS NEIGHBOURS. LET US BE MODEL CITIZENS AND THE TALK OF TOWN. LET IT NOT BE SAID THAT WE DID NOTHING WHEN WE HAD THE CHANCE TO DO SOMETHING! TAKE THIS CHALLENGE AS RESPONSIBLITY ENTRUSTED TO EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US TO LOOK AFTER OUR ENVIRONMENT FOR OURSELVES AND OUR MANY GENERATIONS TO COME IN THE NEAR FUTURE! A SMALL CHANGE IN OURSELVES TO PARTICIPATE AND GET INVOLVED IN OUR ENVIRONMENT WILL MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE.
