We, the people of the world have had enough of mindless celebrities and most notably, Britney Spears, clogging our airwaves, radio stations, magazines, and newspapers. Where the issue truly becomes grating is the constant updates of Britney's life on the evening news. When we live in a world with horrific natural disasters, political strife and turmoil, starving children, AIDS epidemics, and major news of all variety, it is morally, socially, and journalistically irresponsible to devote even ONE SECOND to the minutia of this pop tart's daily life or career.
There are plenty of wonderful human interest stories about Nobel Peace Prize winners, stories of courage and valor, and everyday citizens who are making a positive difference in this world where the central message isn't that the ultimate ideal is to be rich and famous by any means necessary. Somehow, I just can't imagine Walter Cronkite reading a lead in about Paris Hilton's dog going missing, Ben and J. Lo breaking up, or Britney's semiannual nuptials. For the 2 million albums her latest album sold in America, there are 298 million of us who didn't buy and do not care one bit about her life. Show us the respect we deserve and pull Britney Spears off of the news forever.
