GUIDANCE COUNSELLORS ARE NOT JUST “CAREER TEACHERS” 1. Vital One-to-One Counselling for students with psychological, emotional and mental health issues WILL BE LOST. Who will provide: • A safe and confidential service for our vulnerable students? • Referrals for at risk students to external agencies? 2. Vital Educational and Career activities WILL BE LOST • Transition programmes from Primary School • Subject / Cycle Options – Junior Cert, Leaving Cert, TY, LCA/LCVP • Psychometric testing • Information sessions for parents / students – CAO • Career Counselling – College Open-days, Career Exhibitions, Guest speakers to schools e.t.c. 3. Recent ESRI research found that STUDENTS NEED MORE AND WANT MORE one – to – one guidance. I would appeal to you to support the retention of the essential ex-quota provision for Guidance and Counselling.
